Session Summary:

In this presentation, we will discuss the hazards and dangers of high-voltage electricity, and how to prevent encountering both overhead and underground power cables. We will also cover what to do if you come into contact with these lines.

Speaker Biography:

Mike Mead, CLCP, is the Manager of Safety for Cass County Electric Cooperative. He has been in this position for 21 years and with the cooperative for 29 years. He oversees the cooperative's safety and loss control program. His educational background is in Industrial Electrical Technology.

Summary:

Building on the concepts introduced during the conference keynote, this follow-up session will provide a high-level review of the Emotionally Intelligent Leader and demonstrate how emotional intelligence can be applied in everyday workplace interactions.

The session will then focus specifically on Social Regulation: our ability to influence and positively impact the emotional clarity and experience of others. Participants will explore the art of giving and receiving feedback, including how to recognize potential barriers that can get in the way of productive feedback conversations.

Leaders who approach feedback with clarity by naming what works, what needs to shift, and why it matters will build trust in their teams faster. The aim is to create a consistent feedback approach that increases capability and improves performance.

Through interactive exercises and realistic workplace scenarios, participants will put the concepts into practice and leave with practical strategies they can immediately apply to their feedback conversations.

About Our Speaker:

I am a Safety Consultant with WSI, and I have been in this role for 3 years. In my time with WSI I have worked with many different industries and have grown to see that new hire injuries are a serious concern across North Dakota. I received a bachelor’s degree from Mayville State University, and I am currently attending Mitchell Hamline School of Law. I care about safety because of the consequences of not caring. I have seen firsthand how quickly life can change and the consequences it can have on people, their family, and their friends. Safety matters because I care about people and I want everyone to have the opportunity to continue living their lives to the fullest.

This session explores the science behind anti-fatigue mats and their role in influencing posture, circulation, muscle activation, and overall worker fatigue.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of how surface design impacts biomechanics, why micro-movements matter, and how improper mat selection can either reduce risk or create new safety concerns.

This presentation connects ergonomic theory to real-world application. Attendees will leave with actionable guidance for evaluating anti-fatigue mats as an engineering control, selecting appropriate materials for different environments, and integrating flooring solutions into broader fatigue management and injury prevention programs.

Crystal Nelson is a distinguished Board Certified Professional Ergonomist, a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist - Level II, a Remote Ergonomics Assessment Specialist and an occupational therapist. As the founder and owner of Fargo Ergonomics, she has established herself as North Dakota’s leading expert in workplace ergonomics and injury prevention.

Crystal holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Mary and boasts additional credentials in Lean training, functional capacity evaluations, functional job assessments, and pre-work screens/post-offer employment testing. She is the only Board Certified Professional Ergonomist in the state, offering specialized services tailored to industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, office environments and many more.

Equipment Operator Training does not need to be complicated. Many very competent Safety Directors are afraid to put together their own customized safety training programs that are specific to what their workplace requires. Jay has been involved with Safety since 1997, He has been a Safety Trainer through organizations such as Skyjack, Genie, JLG, United Rentals, IVES, Toyota Forklift and Minnesota Safety Council. He has done training sessions for organizations like Great River Energy, Crystal Sugar and Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. With 22 years experience in the rental industry as a field representative with two different corporations, I was exposed to many different situations that directly related to SAFETY.

Now, as a Independent Safety Trainer, I believe in creating safety training programs that WORK.

Is filling out OSHA 300 forms one of your tasks at your company? Do you want a better understanding of recordability? If you answered "Yes" to either of these questions, this critical issues event is for you!

Determining whether a workplace injury or illness is OSHA recordable can sometimes feel like navigating a maze. In this training, we will break down the key requirements of the OSHA 1904 recordkeeping standard and will debate "what if" scenarios. Through these real world scenarios, participants will learn how to distinguish between recordable and non-recordable cases and gain the confidence to discuss those cases in their workplaces.

Andrea is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and has Professional certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) ASP and CIT, from the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) CSM, from the National Safety Council (NSC) ASC, from The Back School a CEAS (Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist). She has over 15 years’ experience in safety in the transportation, manufacturing and construction industries, and has an MS in Occupational Health and Safety from Columbia Southern University and an MBA from American Military University.

This presentation provides a clear introduction to the basics of workplace injury reporting. Participants will learn why timely and accurate reporting matters, what qualifies as a reportable injury or incident, and the key steps to take immediately after an injury occurs. The session also covers common reporting timelines, employee and supervisor responsibilities, and how proper documentation supports worker safety, compliance, and recovery. Designed for employees and frontline leaders, this presentation helps build confidence in responding correctly when workplace injuries happen.

The world of electrical hazards, protection and accident prevention can be a confusing place. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries can be avoided each year by following the NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Be prepared by arming yourself with the knowledge of the types of electrical hazards and the effects of electrical shock and flash. This session will identify the need for electrical safety as well as electrical maintenance and safety programs. Attendees will learn about arc flash hazard risk assessment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and shock and arc flash approach boundaries. Reduce your liability concerns while establishing a culture of safe work practices among employees after attending this session.
